Listening

You own every part of your computer except your voice.

Earshot gives your machine ears and a mouth. Speak into anything, hear your agents answer, and your voice never leaves the room.

The oldest interface

You own the keyboard. You own the mouse. Your voice is on loan.

Every way into a computer has been yours outright. The punch card, the command line, the trackpad, the finger. Bought once, working in a blackout, nobody counting. Then the most human one of all arrived metered, and listening somewhere else.

Speech is a hundred thousand years older than writing. It should not require a subscription.

The loop

Nothing carries on without you.

  1. It stops to ask
  2. Wherever you are
  3. Interrupt it

It stops where a person would.

Four suppliers, two of them cheap and uncertified. It does not guess which you meant and it does not order first and tell you after. It asks, out loud, and waits.

The film

Forty-nine seconds.

Nothing you say leaves this room.

Talking to an agent all day means saying half-formed things out loud, the ones you have not told anyone yet. Recognition and synthesis both run on your Mac, so the recording never becomes anybody else’s to keep.

There is no account to sign in to, and nothing it sends has anything to do with what you said.

Everything else

Small things, used every day.

Every clip below is the app running. None of it is a mockup.

The word it always gets wrongTwo columns: what it heard, what you meant. Applied after recognition, so a wrong rule is visible and removable.
What you saidThe last two hundred, on your machine. Filter, pick one, and it goes back where you were.
Ten voicesPro426, 440, 383 and the rest. A different one per project, so you know which is asking without looking.
Talk over itSay stop and it stops mid-word, then listens. The one thing people do constantly to each other and almost never to software.
No key to holdProThe microphone stays open and a detector decides when a turn starts. The hard part is not starting on everything else in the room.
Muted, except for a questionProFour agents working and none of them narrating, right up until one of them needs you.

We build the models the app runs on.

The wake word in here is ours. We trained it because every pre-trained one worth having is licensed for non-commercial use, and we made recognition and synthesis small enough to run on a laptop. That is the part of Earshot we are least done with: more of our own models, tuned for agents and for the way people actually talk to machines. If your product needs the same, bring us the problem.
